The singular samples

Prices for the single phytoplankton analysis.
ONLY the samples counted using the comprehensive method can, according to the instructions of Environment Institute, be exported to the environmental phytoplankton register.

To determine the phytoplankton biomass, a quantitative method is required.
The results of a concise method cannot be exported to the phytoplankton register, the results of the comprehensive method can.

If you want to know the portion of blue-green algae, the amount of the whole biomass must be calculated, either with a concise or comprehensive method.

Method Content Price
Qualitative method The sample is used to identify the ecologically significant or potentially toxic and dominant species (e.g. the source of mass occurrence) or the organism that has caused an exceptional phenomenon in water. The method does not produce a complete list of species nor information about abundance ratio between species. Suitable for research regarding e.g. blue-green algae and another harmful algae bloom. 120 € + alv 24%
Semi-quantitative method All detected taxa are evaluated as precisely as possible and their abundance is estimated using two levels of magnification (630x and 250x) in the scale of abundance 1-5. Used mainly for comparison of several samples, when more information besides the information of the dominant species is needed, but the results do not need to be statistically more accurate than this. 140 € + alv 24%
Concise quantitative method The sample is examined using three levels of magnification. The small counting units are counted with a 630x magnification of at least 25 fields of view selected from the diameters. The 250X magnification is used to count large and previously unnoticed taxa by using the same method. However, in a total sample at least 200 counting units are calculated. The largest units are counted with a magnification of 100x. The result contains a species list and data of density and biomass. From these results proportion of e.g. blue-green algae can be calculated. These results cannot be exported to SYKE’s phytoplankton register. 160 € + alv 24%
Comprehensive quantitative method The sample is examined using three magnifications. The small counting units are counted with 630x magnification. Picoplankton (<2 μm) is counted separately from a few fields of view. Hereafter at least 400 counting units are counted on at least 50 fields of view, which are chosen on diameter transects. At least 50 units of the most prevalent taxon are counted from at least 20 of fields of view. With 250x magnification, the large and previously unnoticed taxa are counted using the same method. Finally, the largest species and colonies are counted with a magnification of 100x. The result includes a species list and data of density and biomass. The results can be exported to the phytoplankton register of SYKE. 285 € + alv 24%
