Trachelomonas, roundish
Subscription PVIK.
If you want to have a challenge – go and try to identify Trachelomonas species! The group – yet another in the class Euglenophyceae – is large and the variability even on the species level is considerable. Remember, that environmental features can have an effect on the surface patterns as well as the age of the algae.
To start with, PVIK offers a possibility to identify the Trachelomonas species that are round, or almost round. These taxa are included in the key:
- T. cervicula var. cervicula
- T. cervicula var. heterocollis
- T. cervicula var. swirenkiana
- T. volvocina var. subglobosa
- T. zuberii
- T. compacta
- T. globularis
- T. granulosa
- T. lata
- T. manschurica
- T. nepos
- T. rugulosa
- T. scabra var. coberensis
- T. verrucosa
- T. volvocina var. volvocina
- T. volvocina var. derephora
- T. volvocina var. granulosa
- T. volvocina var. pascheri
- T. volvocina var. subglobosa
- T. volvocinopsis
There is a new revision coming on Trachelomonas, so some of the names will be changed. Stay tuned!
